Last Updated: Monday, August 10, 2026
To evaluate the implementation of genetic testing in a real-world setting, researchers conducted a retrospective analysis of 229 patients with HER2- metastatic breast cancer who were treated at a single academic center. They found low genetic counseling rates within this patient population, especially in patients who lacked specific risk factors for hereditary breast cancer. Of those who did receive genetic testing, it revealed targetable mutations in more than 10% of tested patients.
