Younger unrelated donors may be preferable over HLA match in the PTCy era: A study from the ALWP of the EBMT

Last Updated: Friday, April 26, 2024

Results from a retrospective analysis of 10/10 matched unrelated donors and 9/10 mismatched unrelated donors of patients undergoing HSCT using post-transplant cyclophosphamide for acute myeloid leukemia in first or second complete remission showed that donor age < 30 years significantly improved survival. In this context, donor age might be prioritized over HLA match considerations. In addition, cytomegalovirus (CMV)-negative donors were found to be preferable for CMV-negative recipients.
