Renal cell carcinoma in a transplanted kidney: A retrospective evaluation

Last Updated: Wednesday, August 28, 2024

A retrospective analysis of 3,270 patients was completed to attempt to understand why the incidence of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in transplant recipients is 10–30 times higher than in non-transplanted patients and to determine the effectiveness of surgical interventions for complications. Researchers determined that transplanted kidney cancer originates from the donor tissue and the clear cell variant of transplanted kidney cancer is a genetically determined disease. Laparoscopic resection was found to be an effective and safe method for the treatment of RCC in kidney transplants
