Is ablation suitable for small renal masses (SRMs)? A meta-analysis

Last Updated: Monday, September 9, 2024

Researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 27 studies, including 6030 patients, to compare perioperative and oncology outcomes of ablation and partial nephrectomy in small renal masses. It was found that patients who underwent partial nephrectomy were younger by about 5.5 years, had longer operation times by about 1 hour, had lengths of stay about 3 days longer, and had higher complication rates. However, there was no significant difference in cancer-specific survival, overall survival, and recurrence-free survival.
