Evaluation of a novel augmented reality educational tool and its effects on patient experience: A randomized controlled trial

This randomized control study of 100 patients with initial diagnoses of kidney masses or stones looks at the use of augmented reality, with disease simulations and three-dimensional visuals, and its effect in increasing patient understanding of their disease and post-visit satisfaction. Patients were enrolled in either the augmented reality arm or patient education standard of care (traditional discussion, imaging, and hand-drawn illustrations) arm.
