Influence of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy on fracture risk of patients with multiple myeloma
Last Updated: Monday, September 29, 2025
This study investigated the impact of CAR-T therapy on fracture risk in patients with multiple myeloma (MM), a condition often associated with skeletal damage. Researchers retrospectively analyzed a group of MM patients who underwent CAR-T treatment, assessing their fracture risk using PET-CT scans both before and after the therapy. The results indicated a significant reduction in fracture risk following CAR-T infusion, with a substantial decrease in the number of patients categorized as "at risk" for fractures. This suggests that CAR-T therapy may offer a dual benefit for MM patients, addressing both the malignancy itself and the associated risk of pathological fractures.
