Temporal trends in progression risk in smoldering myeloma: A systematic review

Last Updated: Tuesday, February 17, 2026

A systematic review from 1990–2025 reveals that smoldering multiple myeloma is becoming more indolent. While overall 10-year progression risk is 60.1%, rates have significantly declined in recent years due to improved diagnostic precision. Modern screening better identifies high-risk patients (44.7% 2-year risk) while sparing low-risk patients from unnecessary medical interventions through more accurate predictive modeling.
