Impact of Cryopreservation of Peripheral Blood Stem Cells (PBSC) in Transplantation from Matched Unrelated Donor (MUD)

Last Updated: Monday, August 15, 2022

With cryopreservation of peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) for allo-HSCT being implemented because of COVID-19, this study compared graft composition, clinical characteristics, and outcomes between of allo-HSCT recipients from match unrelated donor (MUD) cryopreserved PBSC, as well as from fresh MUD PBSC. Researchers found no differences in engraftment, acute GvHD incidence, and survival, suggesting that frozen PBSC could be considered a safe option.
