Randomized phase II trial shows benefits of prophylactic radiation therapy for asymptomatic bone metastases

According to data from a randomized phase II study—presented during the 2022 American Society for Radiation Oncology Annual Meeting—patients with metastatic cancer and asymptomatic, high-risk bone metastases who received prophylactic radiation experienced a lower incidence of skeletal-related events compared with patients who received no radiation (1.9% vs. 29%; P < 0.001), among other benefits.
