Impact of donor type on outcomes after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation in myelofibrosis: A study on behalf of the Chronic Malignancies Working Party of the EBMT
Last Updated: Wednesday, October 15, 2025
In a study of 2,809 patients with myelofibrosis undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation, donor type was significantly correlated with outcomes such as overall survival, progression-free survival, non-relapse mortality, engraftment, and graft-versus-host disease. Matched sibling and matched unrelated donor types produced comparable outcomes, whereas mismatched unrelated and haploidentical donor sources were associated with higher non-relapse mortality. Mismatched unrelated donor transplants were associated with a greater risk of graft-versus-host disease, although this risk may be reduced with post-transplant cyclophosphamide.
