Completion of distress screening and correlates of distress score in patients with multiple myeloma at initial evaluation at a transplant center

Last Updated: Thursday, February 20, 2025

The distress thermometer (DT) survey was completed by 68% of 1,011 new multiple myeloma (MM) patients. Noncompletion was associated with being non-Hispanic Black, residing in a socially vulnerable neighborhood, having a Karnofsky Performance Status < 90, and recent consults. Nonrespondents were less likely to receive a stem cell transplant. The median distress score among respondents was 3%, with 22% reporting 0 distress. Distress correlated with being female and disease stage.
