Addressing the disparities: The approach to the African American patient with multiple myeloma

This review offers an outline of disparities in multiple myeloma care at both biologic and non-biologic levels, barriers to clinical care, and best practices to ensure that African American patients receive equitable care. Disparities in incidence, timely diagnosis, access to treatment, clinical trial participation, and health-care utilization that negatively impacted outcomes for African American patients with multiple myeloma were identified.
