Randomized Trial of a Palliative Care Intervention to Improve End-of-Life Care Discussions in Patients With Metastatic Breast Cancer

Last Updated: Monday, June 6, 2022

In this study, investigators identified patients with metastatic breast cancer who had clinical indicators of increased risk of death within 6 months. The primary study aim was to determine the effect of a structured palliative care intervention on documentation of end-of-life care discussions in the electronic health record. They also assessed the effect of the intervention on patient-reported discussions about end-of-life care preferences, quality of life, and symptoms of anxiety and depression, as well as hospice utilization.
