Successfully treated esophageal gastrointestinal stromal tumor by minimally invasive esophagectomy followed by imatinib therapy: A case report

Last Updated: Monday, March 24, 2025

This report details a rare case of an esophageal gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) successfully treated in a 68-year-old male. Due to the rarity of these tumors, accurate diagnosis relies on immunohistochemistry to distinguish them from other similar conditions. The patient underwent minimally invasive esophagectomy followed by adjuvant imatinib therapy, showing no recurrence after 16 months. Surgical resection remains the primary treatment for esophageal GIST.
