SOHO state of the art updates and next questions - Infections in chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients: Risks and management

Last Updated: Thursday, April 13, 2023

Immune system dysfunction and infection represents a major cause of death for patients with CLL, which unfortunately has not changed significantly despite major advances in therapy over the past several years. Researchers have, therefore, developed a machine-learning algorithm to identify patients at high risk of serious infections and/or CLL treatment within 2 years of diagnosis (> 65% having an event within 2 years), and are currently conducting a clinical trial to determine if short-term treatment with acalabrutinib and venetoclax for 12 weeks may improve immune system function in patients with CLL.
