Safety and efficacy of sedation for pediatric patients with cancer and developmental disabilities
Last Updated: Tuesday, July 22, 2025
A study evaluated the safety of midazolam and ketamine sedation during painful procedures in pediatric patients with such cancers as ALL who also have developmental disabilities (DDs). While DD patients often fear loud noises and needles, the study found no significant differences in sedative doses or adverse events compared to controls, except for more tremors in the DD group. It concluded that this sedation combination can be safely used in this population.Â
