Last Updated: Tuesday, February 25, 2025
This study assessed the financial burden of hematopoietic cell transplantation on caregivers of pediatric patients. The cross-sectional study interviewed 257 caregivers. Researchers found that 92% of caregivers spent all bank savings, and 67% sold assets to cover expenses. About 18% had to take leave from work for the treatment. The study concludes that financial burdens are substantial, leading to economic impacts and a lower quality of life. It suggests policy and insurance reforms are needed.
